Three Different Blood Cells

Do you know what a Cerberus is? A Cerberus is a three headed dog that appears from the Greek mythology. The Cerberus also appears in Harry Potter and it is called Fluffy.

There is a Cerberus in out body too! The name of that Cerberus is called ‘Blood’.

Blood has three cells, the Leukocytes (white blood cells), the Erythrocytes (red blood cells), and the Thrombocytes (platelets). Today, I will explain you about these three cells.

First, I will tell you about the Leukocytes (white blood cells). These are the cell from the immune system, and they are involved in protecting our body from the disease, germs, and invaders. They destroy the dangerous agents, and cancer cells. The Leukocytes (white blood cells) are made from the multipotent cells which are cells in the bone marrow. Usually, Healthy adults have 4,500 to 11,000 leukocytes all over the body.

Secondly, millions of the Erythrocytes (red blood cells) are in our body, and they are the most popular cells in our blood. There is more plasma than the Erythrocytes (red blood cells), but still the Erythrocytes (red blood cells) are the most popular cells because plasma is not a cell. The Erythrocytes (red blood cells) are round-dumbbell shaped, flexible cells and they deliver oxygen while passing through the blood vessels.

Lastly, I will explain the Thrombocytes (platelets). This is a colorless, non-nucleated blood component. They are important in the formation of blood clots, and only exist in the blood of mammals. They are the smallest blood cells, and only live up to 8 to 12 days.

Today, I talked about the three different blood cells, the Leukocytes (white blood cells), the Erythrocytes (red blood cells), and the Thrombocytes (platelets), but there is another cerberus in our body. Why don’t you try finding this second cerberus?

I will give you a hint! It is a muscle!
