Soccer

Soccer is a game played by two groups of even players with a round ball that must not be touched with hands or arms during the game; except by the two goalkeepers. The game aims to score goals by kicking or heading the ball into the opposite team’s net. Soccer can be played both indoors and outdoors, its rules are easily understood by most people, and that is why it is a popular sport that is enjoyed by most people around the globe. Thus, where does soccer come from? What are its rules? And how are we able to score in soccer?

Initially, “Soccer” was invented in the world more than 200 years ago. It was first played in China, Greece, Rome, and Egypt. However, it was played by hands, feet, and even sticks. Unlike nowadays, the sport was played by up to two hundred players per team, also involved a lot of violence. Players would use swords too if they wanted to. In addition to that, there were big prizes to be won and earned by every single player. While the modern soccer ball is quite convenient and well rounded, the ancient soccer ball was made out of sheep and pig bladders and cast with leather for a long-lasting effect.

Soccer rules are quite cool. One of the most basic rules that distinguish soccer from other sports is: not using our hands while playing, except for goalkeepers. Another important rule is: to not commit fouls such as hitting the other team player or disrespecting the umpire. Soccer is played by two teams with 11 players on each team including one goalkeeper in each team. Both teams have their uniforms. In addition to keeping up with these rules, winning in soccer is determined by teamwork and a good strategy.

A scoring method in soccer is like this: A goal is considered when the ball crosses one of the goal areas with a good, powerful kick or heading while following the same rules I have mentioned above. That is why the goalkeeper plays an important role for the team to win and have a good defense.

Another way to score goals is by “penalty kicks”. A penalty kick is a result of a foul or hand contact of the ball by the defending team. So, the penalty kick is a type of direct kick, which is kicked by only one of the players, carefully selected by the coach. Also, it is placed on the penalty spot, in front of the goal, specifically at the center point. It is also considered a score, so the players must always be careful about it.

Soccer is my favorite sport because it is good for both the mind and the body. Also, it taught me how to be good at teamwork and respect others. I also like the fact that it has been played for a long time and people still enjoy it, no matter what age or sex you are and no matter what place you are from.
