Three Months of Summer Break

Did you have a fun time during your summer vacation? We can do so much during the summer vacation since we don’t need to go to school. But personally, I think most students are still busy studying. In the United States, summer vacation lasts for three months. It’s almost three times longer than our summer break here in South Korea! Do you think we should follow their system and have our summer vacation last for three months too?

I don’t think we should take three month long summer vacations. I think if our summer break gets longer, our winter breaks gets shorter. We can’t level up to the next grade if we don’t attend enough classes and there won’t be enough time to complete a grade if we have longer vacations. If we have a three-month summer break, it would be like having seven bananas but eating six for breakfast and one for dinner, it means we will be spending most of our free time in summer and have very little left for winter. Also, Korea’s school calendar differs from other parts of the world such as the United States, where the second semester ends in summer so they can relax and enjoy their summer vacation after completing an academic year. However in Korea, the second semester ends in winter. It means we have to prepare for the next grade or to calm down from the excitement of the last one with enough time before going back to school which would be difficult if we had shorter winter breaks.

Global warming could also worsen if we had longer summer vacations. Global warming is the Earth getting hotter and hotter and it is an environmental problem. One of the culprits of global warming is the use of air conditioners because they use up a lot of electricity which causes greenhouse gas emissions harmful to the environment. As the summers continue to get warmer, it is almost impossible not to turn our AC on to be cool. If everyone uses their ACs at home throughout the summer break, this will use up much more energy than if we were in one place where we can turn on a central AC system that makes everyone cool at once. The perfect place to do that is in school classrooms. We should attend school during summer to help protect our environment.

Summer is the perfect season to enjoy the weather by playing outside, making good memories, and traveling with friends and family. It is the perfect time to enjoy the hot and sunny weather, perfect for kids to play outside compared to winter, where it is more difficult to play outside or to enjoy the weather because you need to wear thick coats and many layers to stay warm. However, I believe the negative effects of having long summer vacations outweigh the benefits. In conclusion, I think that summer vacations should not last for three months as it will shorten our winter break, and increase environmental concerns. As the academic year ends in winter, if we want to have a longer vacation, we should have longer winter breaks instead.
